What is a Favicon?? No, it’s nothing related to comic books. It’s a small aspect that is a part of your branding and marketing for your online presence. With new computers and software updates, Favicons are appearing more and more in everyday life whether you realize it or not. Favicons display your branding in the URL, Mac Touch Bar, Bookmarks Dropdown and more. I’ve circled examples below.

Yes Favicons are small and might seem insignificant, but they add an aspect of impressing your visitors from the top down.

Go ahead right now and see if you have one by clicking into your URL (Safari) or on Google Crome. From there you will see a small object on the left side of the webpage tab. That’s a Favicon.

What’s the big deal if you don’t have a favicon? Potentially looking unprofessional or less professional than your competitor. When you don’t have a favicon it get automatically populated. Most of the time it is with something completely unrelated to your brand, company and style. Take a look at some of these examples of auto-populated Favicons.

The file and square icons you see above are an indication that the Favicon is not an implemented feature in these websites, so the back end of whatever platform the company is using has selected a generic icon to represent their site. That’s not good for branding…So how can we fix this?

Follow the quick steps below associated with your website’s platform to upload a Favicon of your own. If you don’t have an accent logo to represent your brand, reach out to a branding professional and have them create one for you. Also be sure to check the Favicon after you implement it to make sure that it is legible and represents your brand well.

Here is how you can make that update on Squarespace, WIX and Showit.
